Made quick work of the defending national champs. Looking good to win it all! The greatest rivalry in NBA history is about to be reignited. I am calling this series in favor of my Lakers in 6 Games. Go Kobe, Gasol, Odom, and Farmar. Word to all chumps who have hated on my Lakers for years. There isn’t a Shaq and guess who is back in the NBA Finals? You know!

Took my friends Tom and Matt to Blue Lake park in Fairview Oregon on Friday afternoon. I was glad to have some of my best buds along for couple hours of Trout fishing. Tom doesn’t have a lot of fishing experience, but he learns fast and is good at most of the things he does. Matt has done some fishing and can tie up his own stuff( Tom is trying) and has caught a lot of Trout in his dad’s boat. I have taken Matt fishing for Trout three other times and he didn’t catch anything. So he is thinking that I am bad luck for him( He did catch a fat Bass with me though) I had to prove his theory wrong. We started out fishing the left side of a concrete fishing dock but the water is warming and the Trout are moving to deeper water. So we moved to the middle of the rectangle shaped fishing dock and cast out as far as we could. About twenty minutes later Tom landed the first fish of the day! A nice 11″ stocker. After that I caught a nice 13″ Trout that fought with heart against my ultra light set up, and then another 10 ” after that. It took Matt a little while longer but he finally got his first trout about 20 min after we had. We decided at that point a fishing contest was necessary to complete our trip. The competition was fierce as we traded the lead back and forth and each of us had nice hot streaks of fish. We all caught some larger size trout and Tom caught a funky snub nosed Trout.
I would guess this Trout had it’s nose broken when a fingerling sized Trout and managed to survive. He fought hard against Tom’s 7ft ultra light. Matt had a larger Trout that was jumping like a Small Mouth Bass. They both thought they were pretty hot shit. What is funny when fishing places with a lot of people is that when you show up after they have been there getting skunked, and you start catching fish you can feel the bad juju they are sending your direction. Nobody asked us what we were using either. I am always glad to share what I am using. I hadn’t had a good day that day and going out with my boys made it much better. We almost got our limits in two and half hours. We talked shit and had some laughs. Tom had a good time as he may now want a rod of his own after that day. Matt caught four nice Trout and now recognizes my Trout catching skills.
Ya Betta aks somebody! I was impressed with the fight these Trout put up today. The ultra light setup is a great way to really enjoy smaller Trout fishing. When a good fighter gets on my line I like to loosen the drag enough to let him think he is winning for awhile.
Tackle:
I use Quantum Tetons of 5′ and 7′ and a Okuma Celio 6′ all ultra light. Two have Cardinal 300 sz 10 spin reels and one has a Quantum size 10; I love them. Each set up only costs around 35-40 dollars and looks like a million bucks. For line I use Berkley Trilene 6lb main and Max 2 lb or 4 lb leader. I use single egg hooks from Gamakatsu or South Bay sz 6 or 8. For bait, I use two Power Eggs pushed up to leave the bend and tip of the hook exposed. Leader size should vary with weed conditions and weather conditions.

Went fishing with my new neighbor Aaron. Fished the Willamette below the falls in West Linn. No Bass, but did catch a young Steelhead I think. I put him back unharmed. Well they will show in my spot soon enough. Can’t wait to get another pig like this one from last year. Had fun, great evening weather.

I can’t say enough about the effectiveness I have had when using these little guys for stocked Trout. When used with a correct sized hook they catch fish. They come linked together and in all of Berkely’s popular power bait colors. The stay fresher than the dough. Here is the best part though. The stay on the freaking hook!! I couldn’t stand losing my bait on a bad cast or dragging it through weeds only to have a naked hook upon return. I have used the same eggs for a whole limit of trout. They do get beat up but keep on floating. Gone are my days of getting lectured about dough bait stains on my clothes. They just need to make a rainbow color. They could call it Gratefully Trout. The have the glitter stuff now and I have yet to get a bite on the orange or the Chartreuse. I love the Eggs!

This blogging stuff is new to me so bear with me for a few posts. It is my intention to talk about Sports and Outdoor related materials. That by no means is a rule, just a intention for the blog. The bait and tackle portion of the name should indicate to reasonably sharp individuals that the topic of fishing will be discussed here often. I personally fish for Trout, Bass, Sturgeon, Salmon, and Steelhead. By no means am I an expert, but I will act as though I know what I am talking about. So if you feel the need to tell me how wrong I am, I would save it. This is MY blog. But I will keep it real and listen to opinions of those who wish to share. I will allow appropriate swearing. This ain’t a Tarantino flick! Friendly banter and trash talking is acceptable as long as it is mutual.
Thanks and enjoy
JT
